Women's Gymnastics

Looking For A Peach

STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 26 Stanford women's gymnastics will compete against No. 16 Nebraska, No. 17 Georgia and No. 33 Illinois on Friday at 4:45 p.m. PT in an Elevate the Stage meet at the James Brown Arena in Augusta, Georgia.

Although the city is best known for hosting a major golf tournament in April called the Masters, Elevate the Stage is a three-day gymnastics extravaganza showcasing collegiate and club teams.

In January, the Cardinal participated in the Elevate the Stage meet in Reno, Nevada against UCLA, Utah and Washington.

Coming off close losses at No. 10 Washington and to No. 25 Cal, Stanford is still adjusting to youth and injuries, but has delivered many stellar performances, including perfect 10's from lone senior Elizabeth Price on the uneven bars at the season-opening NorCal Classic and on floor exercise two weeks ago against Cal.

Nationally, Price ranks second on floor (9.916), fourth on vault (9.906), tied for fifth on bars (9.853) and is tied for third in all-around (39.532).

Freshman Kyla Bryant, a native of Oconee, Georgia, is tied for 19th in all-around (39.218), posting season-highs of  9.925 on floor and 9.900 on balance beam and bars.

* Price has recorded 22 first place finishes – five in all-around – and has 17 scores of 9.900 or higher. A native of Coopersburg, Pa., she will graduate with a degree in biomechanical engineering in June.

* Earlier this season against Arizona State, she won every event and the all-around. Last week against Cal, Price won every event except the beam.

* Stanford's 13-player roster includes nine underclassmen, including six true freshmen. Of the latter, Bryant, Rachael Flam, Lauren Navarro and Taylor Lawson have made significant contributions.

* First-year Stanford head coach Tabitha Yim is the most decorated women's gymnast in program history. She was a 14-time All-American and earned a biology degree in 2008.

* The meet will be televised by Flo TV.
