Streak Extends to Eight

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford extended its winning streak to eight Saturday, defeating Boise State, 5-0, and Arizona State, 3-2.

"It was exciting to see contributions from the entire team at every flight, said head coach Andrew Fuller.  "When you're going through long stretches of competition, fatigue can be a factor, so it was awesome for different teams to step up and notch wins."

The Cardinal turned in a dominant effort against Boise State, winning all five matches in straight sets.

No. 2 pair Morgan Hentz and Amelia Smith continued their own eight-match winning streak with their win over the Broncos. After taking a close first set, 21-18, the duo dominated the second set, winning 21-15.

At the No. 5, Kat Anderson and Caitlin Keefe played their first match together since last weekend's Stanford Bay Area Kickoff. They impressed against the Broncos, registering a 21-9, 21-10 victory.

Stanford met conference foe Arizona State in its second match of the day in what would be a close contest.

No. 5 Anderson/Keefe were locked in a battle through two sets, 21-16, 17-21, before having to forfeit the match for medical reasons at the start of the third set.

The No. 4 pairing of Payton Chang and Catherine Raquel engaged in an exciting, back-and-forth dual with Sierra Ellett and Sydney Palmer of Arizona State. After losing the first set, 24-22, the pair battled to an exciting 25-23 win in set two. The duo lost the third set, 15-13, to put Stanford in an 0-2 hole on the dual.

Courtney Bowen and Kate Formico, Stanford's No. 3 pairing, kept the Cardinal alive with a 21-11, 21-15 win over the Sun Devils.

No. 1 Kathryn Plummer and Sunny Villapando outlasted Arizona State in a 21-18 first set win, then made quick work of the Sun Devils with a 21-9 second-set win to even the dual at two points apiece.

The No. 2 pairing of Morgan Hentz and Amelia Smith would decide the Cardinal's fate. They delivered for Stanford, winning in straight sets, 21-10, 21-13.

"This team made a big jump over the last two weeks of home competition, and we are excited to take the next two weeks to take the finer points forward into our Pac-12 competitions in L.A.," added Fuller.

Stanford moves to 8-4 after its pair of dual wins on Saturday and will take its eight-game win streak on the road at the Pac-12 South Tournament on Marh 24 and 25.
