STANFORD, Calif. – Seven members of the Stanford fencing team were selected to compete in the 2018 NCAA Men's and Women's Championships, March 22-25, hosted by Penn State at the Multi-Sport Facility in University Park, Pennsylvania, it was announced Tuesday.

The Cardinal will be represented by five men and two women.

On the men's side, sophomore Robin Cheong and junior Sean Strong will participate in epee; freshman Lucas Orts in foil; and juniors Jeffrey Dalli and Royce Wang in sabre.

Strong and Dalli qualified for the third consecutive year. Strong finished 23rd in 2016 and 15th in 2017, while Dalli claimed 15th in 2016 and 23rd in 2017. Â

The women will be represented by freshman Madeline Liao in foil and junior Carly Weber-Levine in sabre. Weber-Levine is also making her third appearance, placing 22nd in 2016 and 11th in 2017.

A round-robin format will be used in five-touch bouts. The top four finishers in each weapon advance to the semifinals in 15-touch bouts. Winners square off for first and second, with non-advancers sharing third place.

Stanford placed 10th last year in the combined men's and women's standings and has finished 10th or higher in 11 of the last 12 NCAA Championships.
