STANFORD, Calif. –Led by five first-team selections, 12 Stanford wrestlers were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic teams, Commissioner Larry Scott announced last week.
Earning first team honors were fifth-year seniors Nathan Butler and Connor Schram, redshirt sophomore Austin Flores, sophomore Brandon Kier and redshirt freshman Nathan Traxler.
Six Cardinal landed on the second team - redshirt senior Keaton Subjeck, redshirt juniors Paul Fox and Isaiah Locsin, sophomore Gabriel Townsell and redshirt freshman Jake Barry and Jared Hill. Redshirt sophomore David Showunmi (environmental systems engineering) was named honorable mention.
Butler, a computer science major with a 3.54 GPA from Leavenworth, Kansas, is the only four-time first team selection in the conference. The 2018 Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Wrestling, he became just the ninth four-time NCAA qualifier in program history. A 2015 Pac-12 champion, the 285-pounder is one of just 10 Cardinal to register 100 career wins, finishing with 105.
Schram (science, technology and society/communication) and Subjeck (computer science) are both four-time honorees as well. A first-team pick this season, Schram was a member of the second team the previous three seasons. Subjeck is a four-time second-team selection.
Fox (science, technology and society) is being recognized for the third time in his career. A first-team pick in 2016, the 2017 All-American earned second team accolades last season.
Stanford's 12 total selections were the most by any team in the conference. Arizona State was second with seven honorees, while CSU Bakersfield had four.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and appear in 50 percent of the team's scheduled competition. True freshmen are not eligible.
