Women's Gymnastics

Thinking Big

TUCSON, Az. – Looking to wrap up the regular season in strong fashion, the No. 30 Stanford women's gymnastics team will participate in Session #1 of the Pac-12 Championships on Saturday at 1 p.m. PDT at the McKale Center.

The Cardinal begins on the balance beam and will compete with Oregon State (vault), Arizona State (uneven bars) and the host Wildcats (floor exercise).

"We have been a great beam team," said Stanford head coach Tabitha Yim, whose squad owns a season-high of 49.225. "I think it's a very good rotation for us."

Session #2 starts at 6 p.m. and features UCLA (vault), Utah (bars), Washington (floor) and Cal (beam).

All events will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks.

Teams will be looking to earn berths at one of six NCAA Regional Championships on April 7. The sites include Alabama, Minnesota, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Penn State and Utah.

"We have the ability," Yim said.

Advancing teams will be announced during a national selection show on Monday at noon PDT. The NCAA Championships will be held April 20-21 in St. Louis.

Sparked by lone senior Elizabeth Price, the young Cardinal team has shown flashes of brilliance in every event. The challenge has been putting it all together.

"We have the potential to beat anybody," said Yim.

Price, a biomechanical engineering major, is the unquestioned star and leader. She has already posted three perfect 10s this year: in the season-opening NorCal Classic on bars; against Cal on vault; and against UCLA in her last home meet in her final event on floor.

For Stanford to make a post-season push, she will need help from junior Taryn Fitzgerald, sophomore Kaylee Cole, and freshmen Kyla Bryant, Rachael Flam, Lauren Navarro, Catherine Rogers and Taylor Lawson.

• Price is the only gymnast in program history to score 10s in three events and her four overall perfect scores are the most in program history. As a freshman in 2015, she accomplished it on vault against Oregon State. All were achieved at Maples Pavilion.

• In addition to the 10s, Price has registered season-highs of 9.975 on vault, 9.950 on balance beam and 39.825 in all-around.

• In 10 meets, Price has collected 28 firsts and has scored 9.900 or higher 25 times.

• Price established a career-high of 39.825 in all-around against UCLA on March 11. She has captured seven all-around titles in 2018.

• Price has scored 9.900 on bars and floor in nine of 10 meets this season, and seven of 10 times on vault.

• As a team, Stanford is ranked in the top 20 on vault (17), beam (18) and floor (20).

• Stanford tallied a season-high 196.650 points against UCLA (March 11, 2018).

• Stanford's 13-player roster includes nine underclassmen, including six true freshmen. Of the latter, Bryant, Flam, Navarro and Lawson have made the most significant contributions.

• Sophomore Kaylee Cole has led off on vault, beam and floor in five consecutive meets.

• Due to injuries, Stanford will compete with six on bars for only the fourth time this season.

• Last week, Price was named Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week for the third time this season and the seventh time during her career. Flam (Feb. 6) and Bryant (Feb. 13) have been honored as Pac-12 Newcomers of the Week.

• First-year Stanford head coach Tabitha Yim is the most decorated women's gymnast in program history. She was a 14-time All-American and earned a biology degree in 2008.
