Crew Classic Complete

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Stanford men's rowing closed out action at the San Diego Crew Classic on Sunday, registering two fourth-place finishes for the first and second varsity eight boats, and a second-place finish for the third varsity eight.
 
"All three crews raced with passion and fire today," said head coach Craig Amerkhanian.  "The varsity eight improved in all three races while competing in difficult conditions. The 2V and 3V raced hard in their respective competitions, defeating targeted crews."
 
The Cardinal's third varsity eight highlighted the day's racing with a second-place finish. Stanford raced to a 6:37.745 time on the 2,000-meter course, finishing behind California's time of 6:25.377. The Cardinal won second place by a fair margin, outpacing UC Santa Barbara's time of 6:49.046.
 
Stanford's first and second varsity eight boats each turned in fourth-place finishes in their respective competitions.
 
The varsity eight, competing in the Copley Cup Grand Final, recorded a time of 6:12.872 from the fourth bow. California won the event with a 5:50.492, followed by Yale's 5:52.724 and Northeastern's 5:54.867 times.
 
The second varsity eight also raced out of the fourth bow in the Final of the Sharp Memorial Cup. Stanford placed fourth, registering a time of 6:26.283. California took first place with a time of 6:02.139. Northeastern finished second at 6:05.373, and Yale took third at 6:10.910.
 
"We begin the 2018 season with positive energy and the will to work," Amerkhanian added.
 
Stanford will head to Seattle for its next competition, racing Washington on April 7 in Seattle.
