LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Stanford doubles team of senior Tom Fawcett and sophomore William Genesen advanced to the semifinals of the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship with a pair of wins Saturday at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.
The Cardinal pair defeated Pepperdine's Dane Esses and Dennis Uspensky in three sets (6-2; 5-7; 6-1) to advance to the quarterfinals, where they earned a 6-1, 6-4 win over Brady Draheim and Eleftherios Theodorou of Oklahoma State.
Fawcett and Genesen will now face the No. 39 ranked UCLA doubles team of Austin Rapp and Keegan Smith on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. PT.
The UCLA duo defeated Timothy Sah and David Wilczynski earlier in the day to eliminate the Cardinal pair in the round of 16.
In a wild match that included a pair of tiebreakers, the No. 36 Stanford doubles team of Michael Genender and Sameer Kumar fell to Draheim and Theodorou, 2-6; 7-6(3)); 7-6(5)).
