LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Stanford doubles team of senior Tom Fawcett and sophomore William Genesen was eliminated in the semifinals of the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship Sunday at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.
The Cardinal pair, which had won four matches to reach Sunday's semifinal, faced the No. 39 ranked UCLA duo of Austin Rapp and Keegan Smith. The Bruin team had already knocked off the Stanford doubles team of Timothy Sah and David Wilczynski in the round of 16.
Fawcett and Genesen battled Rapp and Smith for three sets, with the Cardinal duo capturing the second set, 6-3. Rapp and Smith were too much for the Cardinal crew, taking the first set (6-2) and clinching the victory with a 6-3 win in the third set.
No. 2 Stanford will return to dual competition this coming week, traveling to the Grand Canyon state to face Arizona State and Arizona on Thursday and Friday, respectively. Stanford will host Army and Air Force on Sunday at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
