Splashing Into Pac-12's

STANFORD, Calif. – The 12th-ranked Stanford men's golf team looks to close out the regular season on a strong note in the 59th Annual Pac-12 Championships next week at Rolling Hills Country Club in Rolling Estates, California.

Hosted by USC, all 12 conference teams participating in the 72-hole event.

"We are eager to get down to Rolling Hills and pursue a Pac-12 Championship," said Conrad Ray, the Knowles Family Director of Men's Golf. "The guys have been working hard and competing at a high level amongst themselves on campus which will hopefully lead to rounded contributions from everyone and is the key to winning the tournament."

Rolling Hills has been redesigned and reopened in early January. A links-style layout, it figures to be a challenge for all participants.

"We expect the conditions to be hard and fast and have tried to think about that in our preparation as well," Ray said.

The Cardinal comes into the championship after posting a strong third-place showing at The Goodwin and placed sixth at the Western Intercollegiate. Senior Jeff Swegle has sparked Stanford in both events, earning a career-best runner-up finish at The Goodwin and tied for 16th at the Western.

Stanford has collected four top five showings in nine starts this season. Juniors Brandon Wu (70.42) and Isaiah Salinda (71.50) lead the squad in scoring and have posted three top 10s, while senior Franklin Huang (71.52) has earned five top 25 finishes.

The Course

Rolling Hills Country Club

The original course was closed in 2015 and has been redesigned by Scottish architect David McLay Kidd, whose most notable course is Bandon Dunes in Oregon. More than six million cubic yards of dirt were moved to create a links-style experience that is situated near the Pacific Ocean and offers panoramic views of Los Angeles. The private course reopened in January of 2018 and boasts a 75,000-square-foot clubhouse. The course will play 7,155 yards and plays to a par-71. The unconventional layout has no trees and features eight par-4s and one par-3 (No. 9) on the front, and five par-4s, two par-5s and two par-3s on the back. One hole of note is the 465-yard par-4 18th, which has a large bunker in the middle of the large green.
