STANFORD, Calif. – Junior left-handed pitcher Kris Bubic was named a midseason All-American by D1 Baseball, as announced Wednesday.
Bubic, who hails from nearby San Jose, California, enters Stanford's three-game series at UCLA 5-0 with a 0.96 ERA, .150 batting average against and a 0.77 WHIP. He has not allowed more than one earned run in each of his six starts this season, and currently rides a 14.1 scoreless innings streak.
Bubic earned All-Pac-12 honors in 2017 and was named Cape Cod League Pitcher of the Year in the summer. He was named a preseason All-American in 2018 by D1 Baseball, Baseball America, NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
D1 Baseball also named Clarke and Elizabeth Nelson Director of Baseball David Esquer midseason Coach of the Year. Esquer, who started on Stanford's 1987 national championship-winning team, replaced Mark Marquess in June as Stanford's first new head coach in 41 seasons. Stanford is off to a 22-3 start (5-1 Pac-12) – at 17-2, Stanford's start was the program's best since 1998.
No. 2 Stanford opens a three-game series at UCLA on Friday at 6 p.m. PT, followed by matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Cardinal returns to Sunken Diamond on Tuesday to host UC Davis before opening a three-game series against Arizona State on April 13-15.
