STANFORD, Calif. - Four consecutive first-period falls by Stanford sealed a 41-5 dual win over San Francisco State, Saturday, during the Cardinal's outdoor dual at football fan fest.
Leading 17-5, Rico Storner (174), Austin Flores (184), Nathan Traxler (197) and Haydn Maley (285) all registered falls to clinch the home opener for Stanford (1-0). Overall, the Cardinal won nine of the 10 bouts and scored bonus points in six bouts against the Gators (1-2).
Stormer, a graduate transfer from Harvard, sparked the Cardinal run of pins with a first period fall over Elias Rosales at 174 pounds. Redshir junior Austin Flores followed at 184 pounds with Stanford's fastest fall of the season, pinning Justin Pichedwatana in just 35 seconds.
Traxler, who is ranked eighth nationally at 197 pounds, secured a fall in 1:20 over Andrew Herrera, while redshirt freshman Haydn Maley recorded one in 2:26 over Ricardo Jaramillo at heavyweight.
The dual began at 125 pounds, where 19th-ranked Gabriel Townsell held off SF State's Nathan Cervantez, 6-3. Sophomore Anthony Le earned his first win of the season at 133 pounds, defeating Brandon Vu, 10-3.
Redshirt sophomore Requir van der Merwe tallied Stanford's first bonus-point win, shutting out Isiah Alva, 10-0, at 149 pounds. Redshirt sophomore Jared Hill also posted a major decision of his own at 157 pounds, taking out Romeo Medina-Ontiveros, 8-0.
Redshirt sophomore Brandon Dallavia registered an 11-7 decision against SF State's Maxamillian Schneider in his season debut at 165 pounds.
Up next, Stanford will travel to Bakersfield for the Roadrunner Open on Nov. 18. The next dual is set for Nov. 20 as the Cardinal takes on Fresno State in San Diego for the Battle of the Midway.
