STANFORD, Calif. – Senior forward Amir Bashti is one of 60 NCAA Division I college players invited to participate in the 2019 MLS adidas Player Combine, Major League Soccer announced Thursday.
Top collegiate players from across the country will showcase their talents in front of representatives from MLS clubs in Orlando from Jan. 3-9. All invited players will be eligible for selection in the 2019 SuperDraft, presented by adidas, which will take place on Jan. 11 in Chicago. A committee of MLS coaches and NCAA Division I coaches from every conference selected the invitees, all of whom completed their college eligibility this season.
Bashti won three national championships, four Pac-12 titles and went 64-11-15 (.794) during his time on The Farm.
A third-team All-American and All-Pac-12 first team pick as a senior, Bashti finished sixth in the league in scoring and fifth in points with a career-high seven goals and six assists this season. The senior twice earned Pac-12 Player of the Week awards following a brace against Delaware on Sept. 16 and a two-goal, two-assist weekend to begin conference action in late September against San Diego State and UCLA. Bashti played in 88 matches during his career, tied with Lee Morrison (1998-2001) for the most in program history, and scored 19 goals to go along with 13 assists.
Bashti, who boasts a 3.45 cumulative GPA as a science, technology and society major, became the 10th Stanford player to earn first-team academic All-America accolades from United Soccer Coaches earlier this week.
Stanford has had five players attend the combine the past three seasons – Tomas Hilliard-Arce, Brian Nana-Sinkam, Ty Thompson, Eric Verso, Brandon Vincent - and each has been selected in the MLS SuperDraft, including three in the first round (Vincent – 2016 - Chicago; Nana-Sinkam – 2017 – Seattle; Hilliard-Arce – 2018 – Los Angeles Galaxy).
