STANFORD, Calif. - No. 1 Stanford quickly dispatched Saint Mary's 4-0 on Saturday afternoon in the season opener for both teams at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Stanford (1-0) will next face Washington State on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the winner booking a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, a tournament Stanford has not participated in since winning the event in 2011.
The Cardinal secured the doubles point for a 1-0 lead and then blitzed Saint Mary's (0-1) thanks to its powerful singles lineup, which returns all six players from last year's NCAA championship team.
Caroline Lampl was first off the court with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No. 3 spot before Janice Shin contributed a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at the No. 5 position.
Emily Arbuthnott then delivered her 19th career clincher with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the No. 4 spot.
