CHICAGO – No. 10-ranked and No. 9-seeded Stanford blanked No. 19-ranked and No. 16-seeded Tulane, 4-0, Saturday afternoon at the Midtown Athletic Club to advance at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
The Cardinal (6-2) moves on to face Florida on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. PT. The Gators defeated Illinois Saturday night.
Stanford took the doubles point with wins by Axel Geller and Alexandre Rotsaert at No. 1 (6-3) and Sameer Kumar and Timothy Sah (7-5) at No. 2.
The Cardinal continued its momentum in singles play, with victories by Geller at No. 1 and Sangeet Sridhar at No. 5. As he did against USC last week, senior Sameer Kumar followed with the clincher at No. 4. He defeated Dane Esses, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 to seal the Cardinal win.
