STANFORD, Calif. – For the fifth consecutive week to start the season, No. 2 Stanford will compete against No. 11 California, this week traveling back to Haas Pavilion for a 6 p.m. PT clash on Saturday.
Stanford has topped Cal in convincing fashion in each of the first four meetings, including registering its highest team score of the year last week at the Pac-12 Invitational. There, freshman Brody Malone won the all-around title with a mark of 84.200 to help guide Stanford to a combined 418.350 team score – the highest in the nation last week.
Following the stellar showing, Malone captured a clean sweep of the available men's gymnastics weekly honors, taking home MPSF Gymnast of the Week, College Gymnastics Association Gymnast of the Week, and College Gymnastics Association Rookie of the Week. The sweep of the weekly awards is the first for Stanford in program history, and Malone has now claimed back-to-back MPSF Gymnast and CGA Rookie of the Week honors.

Malone finished top-four in all but one event at the Pac-12 Invitational, including taking second place in the pommel horse (career-best 13.650) and parallel bars (14.000). He captured third place overall in the still rings with a career-best 14.300, and added another career-high in the vault at 14.550 to share a third-place finish. Malone's final top-four finish came in the high bar, where he hit for a 13.600 to earn fourth overall and help Stanford claim three of the top-four spots in the event.
Stanford as a team registered new team-bests in pommel horse (67.350) and still rings (71.100) while capturing the individual and team event titles in every discipline. Ryan Sheppard took top-honors on the floor with a new Stanford-high (14.700), while David Jessen won both the pommel horse (career-best 13.950) and high bar (13.750). Senior Josiah Eng registered a season-best for the Cardinal to capture the rings crown (14.800), while Connor Lewis won the vault (career-best 14.850), and Blake Sun took first in the parallel bars (career-high 14.550).

Following the Saturday meet at Cal, Stanford will send gymnasts to the Winter Cup from February 15-17 in Las Vegas. Team competition resumes on February 23 when the Card hosts the International Collegiate Open at 4 p.m. from Burnham Pavilion.
