Weekend Sweep

SEATTLE – No. 12 Stanford men's tennis completed the sweep of its trip to the Pacific Northwest with a 4-1 victory over Washington Sunday afternoon at Quillian Tennis Stadium.

The Cardinal (16-5, 5-3 Pac-12) closed the regular season with three victories and earned its 15th consecutive win over the Huskies (7-16, 2-6 Pac-12). The victory also secured the No. 3 seed in the Pac-12 Championships this coming week.

Stanford rebounded after losing the doubles point to the Huskies, posting four wins in singles to claim the dual. It was the third time this season Stanford dropped the doubles point and still captured the dual win, also achieved the feat against USC and California in nonconference matches.

Straight-set wins for Timothy Sah and Michael Genender at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, got it started.

Next it was Alexandre Rotsaert picking up his fourth win of the weekend, posting a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot to inch the Cardinal closer to the dual win. Rotsaert, who also captured a 6-2 win in doubles playing with fellow freshman Sangeet Sridhar, registered a straight-set victory in singles and picked up a doubles win against Oregon on Friday to complete the perfect weekend. Rotsaert recorded his 11th singles victory in dual play.

It was a different venue, but the same result for Axel Geller. Just like he did on Friday in Eugene, the sophomore won a tiebreaker on Sunday in Seattle to clinch it for the Cardinal for the second match in row. Geller actually won a pair of tiebreakers to earn the hard-fought win against Washington's Enzo Sommer at No. 1. The win gave Geller 10 victories at the top spot in dual play this spring.

Sunday's match concluded the regular season for both teams. Stanford will head to Ojai, California, this coming week to compete in the Pac-12 Championships. The third-seeded Cardinal will face sixth-seeded Arizona on Thursday at 6 p.m. PT.No. 12 Stanford 4, Washington 1
