STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford shifts its focus to tournament play this week as the Pac-12 Championship gets underway Thursday morning in Los Angeles.
Stanford (10-16) has drawn the No. 5 seed and will square off against No. 4 seed Arizona at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday in the double-elimination event. It's the second straight season the Cardinal has faced the Wildcats in the opening round, with Stanford prevailing 4-1 in 2018 when the seeds were flipped.
Stanford defeated Arizona 3-2 back on March 3 in Tucson, Arizona, in the only meeting of the regular season.
Should Stanford advance in the winners bracket, No. 1 seed UCLA awaits on Friday afternoon as the likely opponent.
Despite being sidelined due to injury for the last month and a half, senior Courtney Bowen remains Stanford's all-time leader with 49 individual career wins.
Right behind Bowen with 48 victories is junior Morgan Hentz, who has teamed up with sophomore Sunny Villapando at the No. 2 spot, producing a 10-5 record.
Meanwhile, three freshmen have gained valuable experience this season while totaling at least 11 individual wins: Tori Ashkinos (14), Maddie Dailey (12) and Charlie Ekstrom (11). Ashkinos and Ekstrom have posted a 10-8 record as the Cardinal's No. 1 pairing.
All of the championship action will be televised live on Pac-12 Network with Anne Marie Anderson, Holly McPeak, Kevin Barnett and Camryn Irwin calling the action over the three days.
