STANFORD, Calif. - No. 2 Stanford begins postseason competition this weekend with an appearance at the MPSF Championships in Norman, Okla. The Cardinal is seeking its fifth conference crown, including its first since 2011.

In addition to 2011, Stanford has previously captured the MPSF crown in 2009, 1995 and 1993, doubling up to win the NCAA Championship in each of those same four seasons.

This weekend's meet will feature No. 11 California, No. 13 Air Force and host No. 1 Oklahoma - winner of the previous seven MPSF titles and the four-time defending NCAA champion.

Stanford has seen Cal a handful of times in 2019, topping the Golden Bears on every occasion, while also posting a victory over Air Force on March 8. The meeting against Oklahoma will be the first between the consensus top-two teams in the nation. The Cardinal has been tabbed No. 1 twice this year, with Oklahoma holding top billing the rest of the season.

While this weekend will introduce the pair, Stanford and Oklahoma will then hook up again in two weeks when it matters most, with this year's NCAA Championships scheduled for April 19-20 in Champaign, Illinois.

The Cardinal most recently defeated Cal, 417.400-396.150, on March 30 as part of Senior Day. Freshman Brody Malone stole the show, becoming just the second gymnast this year to record an all-around score of 85.000 or better, finishing with a mark of 85.250. Malone won the vault (14.650) and parallel bars (14.550) with career-bests, took first in high bar (14.050), and shared the floor title (14.300). He also managed a third-place finish in the pommel horse (career-best 13.900), and was fourth in still rings (13.800).

Junior David Jessen and sophomore Trevor DiGerolamo also captured event titles, winning the pommel horse and rings, respectively. Jessen recorded a career-best 14.200 on the pommels, while DiGerolamo finished atop the rings standings with a score of 14.050.

Following the strong showing, Malone, who leads the nation in the all-around (84.283), swept all three of the men's gymnastics weekly awards for the second time this year – nabbing College Gymnastics Association and MPSF Gymnast of the Week as well as CGA Rookie of the Week. No previous Stanford gymnast had ever swept the three weekly awards.
