STANFORD, Calif. - No. 5 Stanford blanked No. 36 Washington State 4-0 on Friday afternoon, kicking off its final homestand of the regular season at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Recording its ninth shutout, Stanford (15-1, 6-0 Pac-12) moved one step closer to securing another regular-season conference title this weekend.
Winners of 10 in a row, three-time defending Pac-12 champion Stanford has now won 33 straight regular-season conference matches dating back to March 5, 2016, when it lost 4-3 at Arizona State.
Meanwhile, the Cardinal remained unbeaten in 10 home matches this season and has won 58 of its last 61 contests at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Friday marked Stanford's second win over Washington State (17-6, 2-4 Pac-12) this season, as the Cardinal blanked the Cougars 4-0 back on Jan. 27 during ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
Leading 1-0 after doubles, the Cardinal received convincing singles wins from Emily Arbuthnott (6-2, 6-0) and Melissa Lord (6-2, 6-4) before Michaela Gordon added her second clincher of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Michaela Bayerlova at the No. 1 position.
Stanford can now shift its attention to Saturday's match against No. 15 Washington (15-1, 5-0 Pac-12). The Cardinal will have added incentive on Senior Day, celebrating the careers of Caroline Lampl, Melissa Lord, Naomie Rosenberg, Elizabeth Yao and Kimberly Yee. Among the accomplishments for Stanford's five-member senior class: two NCAA titles (2016, 2018), three Pac-12 crowns (2016, 2017, 2018), 85-12 overall record, 34-1 Pac-12 record and 46-2 record at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
