MLB Draft Tracker Opens in a new window

STANFORD, Calif. – Erik Miller, Jack Little, Maverick Handley and Will Matthiessen were each picked on Day 2 of the Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday.

After Kyle Stowers was drafted 71st overall by the Baltimore Orioles in the competitive balance Round 2 on Monday night during the Cardinal's 9-7 win over Fresno State, Stanford upped its total to five players picked through 10 rounds of the draft. The draft concludes Wednesday with Rounds 11-40, starting at 9 a.m. PT on MLB.com.

Miller, a left-handed pitcher from Wildwood, Mo., went 120th overall in the fourth round to the Philadelphia Phillies. In 15 starts, Miller carries a 3.15 earned-run average with a team-high 97 strikeouts in 80.0 innings – Miller set a career high with 12 strikeouts in a must-win situation on Sunday, earning the win in Stanford's 8-6 triumph of Fresno State to fend off elimination from the Stanford Regional.

Little, a right-handed pitcher who hails from Las Vegas, was picked 161st overall in the fifth round by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Little is the all-time program record holder with 28 career saves, none of which were bigger than his two saves in Stanford's final two wins of the Stanford Regional. A 2018 consensus All-American, Little earned All-Pac-12 honors in 2019 while his 12 saves rank second in the Pac-12.

Handley, a catcher from Lakewood, Colo., joins Stowers in the Orioles' organization after being picked 168th overall in the sixth round. Batting .293/.399/.451 with five home runs, Handley was named Most Outstanding Player in the Stanford Regional after earning Pac-12 Co-Defensive Player of the Year and All-Pac-12 honors. Stanford is 91-20-0 in three seasons with Handley starting behind the dish.

Matthiessen, a native of West Linn, Oregon, was picked 184th overall in the sixth round by the Pittsburgh Pirates. A finalist for the John Olerud Award, which is annually awarded to the best two-way player in college baseball, Matthiessen leads the team in batting average (.322), on-base percentage (.399) and RBI (52) with 12 home runs, also carrying a 3.71 ERA in 53.1 innings across 15 pitching appearances.
