STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford men's basketball program was once again recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) with the Team Academic Excellence Award and rising seniors Kodye Pugh and Trevor Stanback were named to the NABC Honors Court.
The NABC Committee on Academics recognized outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better for the 2018-19 season. The NABC Honors Court recognized student-athletes in their junior or senior year academically with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or better at the conclusion of the 2018-19 academic year.
Stanford boasted a 3.35 grade-point average as a team this past academic year. The Cardinal was one of two programs in the Pac-12 (along with Oregon State) to receive the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award.
Stanback boasts a cumulative GPA of 3.445 and Pugh owns a cumulative GPA of 3.345. Both were Second Team Pac-12 All-Academic selections juniors last season.
Stanback, who majors in psychology, averaged 1.2 points in 6.6 minutes per game in 2018-19. He played 14 minutes against Kansas in December, collecting four rebounds. Stanback scored a season-best six points in the win at UNC Wilmington in November.
Pugh, a redshirt sophomore eligibility-wise last season, is majoring in Film and Media Studies. The forward played in 21 games last season, where he averaged 2.0 ppg. He is on the board of the film and animation group on campus.
The Cardinal pair is part of a group of 11 returnees from Stanford's 2018-19 squad. Pugh and Stanback join guard Rodney Herenton as seniors, academically, on the 2019-20 roster.
