STANFORD, Calif. – Catarina Macario and Sophia Smith were named to the watch list for the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy, the highest individual honor in college soccer, on Thursday.
It is the fifth straight season Stanford has had multiple student-athletes named to the watch list. Stanford student-athletes have won five of the last 10 Hermann Trophies while 20 different Cardinal over the past 11 seasons have been named to the watch list or a semifinalist.
Macario is the reigning MAC Hermann Trophy winner and ESPNW Player of the Year in each of her two seasons at Stanford. The two-time Pac-12 Forward of the Year led the Pac-12 in points (36) and goals (14), including several strikes of the highest quality during Stanford's undefeated regular season.

As a freshman in 2017, Macario led the nation in points (50) and assists (16). Through two seasons, she ranks just outside the top-10 in program history in goals and assists, while her nine postseason assists are a program record, passing the previous mark shared by Christen Press and Chioma Ubogagu (7). During Macario's two seasons on The Farm, Stanford is 45-2-2 with a 21-0-1 clip in Pac-12 play and 27-0-1 record in home games.
Smith finished an injury-shortened season with seven goals and two assists in 13 appearances as a freshman in 2018. In just six league appearances, Smith co-led the Pac-12 in game-winning goals (3) while ranking eighth in goals per game (0.50).

In 2011, Teresa Noyola became the third consecutive Cardinal to win the Hermann Trophy, following Press (2010) and Kelley O'Hara (2009). Macario made it two in a row last season after Andi Sullivan captured Stanford's fourth Hermann Trophy in 2017 after co-captaining Stanford to its second national championship.
Near the end of the collegiate regular season, NCAA Division I coaches will vote on their top 15 choices before the list is narrowed to three finalists – the winner will be announced in January.
