Cardinal on U.S. Roster for FINA Junior World Championship

STANFORD, Calif. – A trio of Cardinal have been named to the United States roster for the upcoming FINA Women's Junior World Championship from Sept. 9-15 in Funchal, Portugal.

Stanford junior Sarah Klass and sophomore Ryann Neushul, both returners from USA Water Polo's 2017 FINA Junior World Championship squad that took fifth in Volos, Greece, are on the 13-player roster while incoming freshman Hannah Constandse is one of three alternates.

A complete competition schedule will be made available in the coming weeks with live streaming expected at subscription service FINATV.live. Team USA has been slotted second in Group A, joined by Hungary, Australia and Japan. Prior to the start of competition, Team USA will take part in a week of common training in Barcelona, Spain with the Spanish Women's Junior National Team.

All three are recently returned from two weeks of sports diplomacy with the current Cardinal team in Chengdu, China and the Tibetan Plateau of Sichuan Province. Neushul also was part of a first-place effort at the inaugural beach water polo championship at the FINA World Championship in July in Gwangju, South Korea.

This past collegiate season, Klass was voted ACWPC All-America honorable mention after finishing third on the team with 42 goals and 10th in the MPSF in scoring average (1.68 goals per game). She scored in 20 games and had 13 multi-goal efforts, including five hat tricks.

The MPSF Newcomer of the Year, Neushul was an All-NCAA Tournament first-team selection after scoring back-to-back game winners in the semifinals and championship. She was fifth on the team in scoring with 35 goals and 17th in the conference in goals per game (1.40). Forty percent of her scoring output came in the season's final eight games (14 of 35) and she had four hat tricks among her nine multi-goal performances.

At the FINA Junior World Championship two years ago, Klass played in all seven games and scored six times on 15 shots to go along with a pair of assists. A top-five scorer at the event, Neushul led the United States with 15 goals in seven games and tied for the team lead with seven steals. She scored her 15 on 31 attempts and her 48.4 shooting percentage was third among the 21 double-digit scorers at the tournament.

An All-CIF selection in Division 1, Constandse scored team-high 50 goals and added 26 assists and 43 steals to help Mater Dei claim a share of the Trinity League title last season. She was also selected to represent Team USA in the 2018 Youth World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia and won a silver medal at the 2016 UANA Junior Pan American Championships.
