For just the second time in Stanford men's golf history, two Cardinal will represent Team USA in the Walker Cup. The Walker Cup Match will take place on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 7-8) at Royal Liverpool in Hoylake, England.
The last time two Cardinal made Team USA was in 1979, when Mike Peck '78 and Doug Clarke '80 competed.
Recent graduates, Salinda, from South San Francisco, Calif., and Wu, from Scarsdale, N.Y., will compete for the 10-member American squad to face Great Britain and Ireland in the 47th meeting. The U.S. holds a 36-9-1 advantage.
Each of the two competition days features foursomes (alternate-shot) matches in the morning followed by singles matches in the afternoon. On Saturday, there are eight singles matches, while all 10 players from each side compete in singles on Sunday. One full point is awarded for each victory, while a half-point is earned for matches that are all square after 18 holes. The USA needs 13 pints to retain the Cup, while GB&I requires 13.5 to reclaim it.
Following each day of competition, the Golf Channel will air a one-hour highlight special from 8-9 p.m. PT.
