Five in a Row

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 2 Stanford clinched at least a share of its fifth-consecutive Pac-12 conference championship on Thursday night with a 3-0 win against Arizona State at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.

"I'm so proud of this team for coming out and achieving one of our goals of winning the Pac-12 championship," said the Knowles Family Director of Women's Soccer Paul Ratcliffe. "Now, we can turn our attention to finishing the regular season on a high note and looking toward the postseason. I would also like to thank our fans for making Cagan Stadium such an amazing place to play, night in and night out."

Catarina Macario scored and assisted another while Madison Haley and Jojo Harber also scored for the Cardinal (17-1-0, 9-0-0 Pac-12). Stanford outshot the Sun Devils (6-9-3, 0-7-2), 36-1, and did not allow a shot on target while extending its shutout streak to 797:38 minutes. Stanford is unbeaten in its last 36 home games and unbeaten in its last 39 Pac-12 contests.

With one point from its next two games, Stanford will clinch its unprecedented fifth consecutive outright Pac-12 championship.

Stanford cruised into halftime with a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Haley and Harber. In the 10th minute, Haley capitalized on an Arizona State error to put home her 10th goal of the season. In the 39th minute, Harber headed home Macario's corner kick to double the advantage entering the break.

Stanford pushed the lead to 3-0 shortly after halftime through Macario. Sophia Smith won the ball in the attacking third and played Macario through with a subtle touch between the legs of a Sun Devil defender. Macario picked it up, juked a defender and buried it inside the left post for her 21st goal of the season.

No. 2 Stanford returns to action on Sunday when it plays host to Arizona at Noon on Pac-12 Networks. The Cardinal wraps up its regular season when it welcomes California to Laird Q. Cagan Stadium on Nov. 8.
