BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Shane Griffith and Nathan Traxler secured titles for Stanford as the Cardinal had seven placers overall, Sunday, at the Roadrunner Open in the Icardo Center.
Griffith improved to 11-0 on the season, recording three falls and a major decision in the tournament at 165 pounds. Ranked eighth in the nation, Griffith pinned Fresno State's Adam Kemp in 6:41 in the finals. He now has six falls on the season.
Traxler also registered a fall in the finals, defeating Fresno State's Ryan Reyes in 1:56. Traxler, who is ranked 10th nationally at 197 pounds, went 4-0 in the tournament, posting a technical fall in the opening round and then three consecutive falls. Traxler is now 10-1 on the year.
Redshirt sophomore Dalton Young also reached the finals, finishing as the runner-up at 133 pounds. He went 3-1 in the tournament is now 8-3 on the season.
Redshirt freshman Tyler Eischens took third at 157 pounds with a 5-1 record. Eischens reached the semifinals and then posted back-to-back falls in the consolation bracket. He now has four falls on the year.
Fifth-year senior Trevor Rasmussen also finished third with a 5-1 record. The heavyweight registered three falls in the tournament and is now 8-4 overall.
True freshman Jackson DiSario went 5-1, reaching the NCAA maximum for number of matches that can be wrestled in a day, finishing with no contests in his final two matches to take sixth.
Freshman Jaden Abas was also in action, placing fifth at 149 pounds while wrestling unattached.
Stanford is back in action on December 19 against Drexel. The dual will be held at Mott Gym in San Luis Obispo, California.
