Card Falls In Opener

Box Score

STANFORD, Calif. – It was an opening night of learning opportunities for a young Stanford Baseball team on Friday night, as the Cardinal fell to Cal State Fullerton 7-1 at Sunken Diamond. The two teams will meet again on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Cardinal was ultimately undone by untimely errors, as Stanford's three errors led to five unearned runs in the game. Tim Tawa and Christian Robinson combined for four of Stanford's seven hits on the night, but the Cardinal also left nine on base in the loss.

Brendan Beck got the start and went 4.2 innings, striking out three. After allowing single runs in the first and second innings, Beck settled in and retired 10 straight Titans' batters into the fifth inning. A two-out error by Stanford, though, was followed by three straight hits and led to four Fullerton runs to break the game open.

The Cardinal got on the board in the bottom of the sixth when Nick Brueser, who started the inning with a leadoff double, scored on Robinson's two-out single through the left side.

Fullerton tacked on a run in the ninth to extend the lead to the game's final margin, 7-1.

In total, five Cardinal pitched in Friday's game, highlighted by Jackson Parthasarathy's two innings of scoreless relief.

The two teams will continue the three-game series on Saturday with first pitch set for 2 p.m. on Klein Field at Sunken Diamond.
