First Win for Lacrosse

STANFORD, CALIF. – No. 20 Stanford recorded its first win of the season by a score of 15-7 on Sunday at Cagan Stadium. It was also the first win for the Cardinal under Head Coach Danielle Spencer.

Mikaela Watson led the Cardinal with three goals, while Ali Baiocco, Jacie Lemos and Galen Lew each scored two. A total of 10 different student-athletes scored goals for Stanford.

How It Happened
The Cardinal got out to a quick lead when Lemos and Lew each scored within the first two minutes after the opening draw control.

After San Diego State scored one, Watson answered with two of her own to take a 4-1 lead.

The Aztecs cut the lead to 4-3, but that was the closest they would come. Stanford scored three-straight from Baiocco, Lemos and Lew to go up 7-3, before San Diego State scored again. The Cardinal proceeded to tack on another three-straight, from Caitlin Chicoski, Genesis Lucero and Baiocco.

Heading into the half, the Aztecs trailed the Cardinal by a score of 10-5.

Watson secured her hat trick within the first two minutes of the second half. Katherine Gjertsen and Jay Browne proceeded to get on the board to make it 13-5, Stanford.

San Diego State scored two more, but that is all they would get. Stanford added two more goals, one from Hannah Dudley, her first of the season, and another from Emma Knaus.

Numbers
Stanford held the advantage in shots (41-23), ground balls (53-34) and draw controls (16-7).

Stanford (1-2, 0-0 Pac-12) returns to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when it hosts UC Davis at Cagan Stadium.
