SEATTLE – Stanford sophomore Max McKhann took another step in a superb season by establishing his third personal best in four indoor meets, placing third in the 35-pound weight throw on the first day of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on Friday.

McKhann hit 65-10 ¼ (20.07 meters) on his fifth throw – a 3 ½ foot improvement on his top throw in the competition at University of Washington's Dempsey Indoor facility. It also shattered his month-old PB of 64-3 ¼ (19.59m). He strengthens his hold on the No. 5 spot in Stanford history.

It was among a series of highlights for the Stanford men, who sit eighth as a team with 17 points going into the meet's second and final day. The Cardinal women are 11th with 7 points.

Dorien Simon broke his own Stanford freshman record in the 60, by 0.01, by running 6.80 in the prelims of the 60. Simon, from nearby Lakewood, Washington, ties the late Tyrone McGraw as the second-fastest in Stanford history in that event. Only the 6.71 by Isaiah Brandt-Sims last year, stands in Simon's way.

Cardinal senior Julian Body continued his strongest indoor season, racing to a 7.92 in the 60 hurdles prelims to establish a PB while becoming No. 2 in school history, trailing only Myles Bradley at 7.71 (2009). Two weeks ago, Body shattered his 400 best and jumped to No. 8 all-time indoors at 47.45.

Matching McKhann for being Stanford's highest placer on Day One was All-American Alek Parsons, who took third in the 5,000 in 13:54.42, only 1.49 seconds behind winner Brandon Garnica of BYU.

The top finish for the Stanford women came from freshman Abi Archer in the 5,000. Archer ran 16:21.48 in her first collegiate track attempt at that distance to place fourth.
