STANFORD, Calif. – In a complete team effort, No. 21 Stanford began conference play with a 15-9 win over Arizona State, Friday, at Stanford Stadium.

Stanford (2-0) improved to 6-0 all-time against Arizona State (2-2) and won its Pac-12 opener for the first time. The Cardinal outshot the Sun Devils 34-20 and held a 14-12 edge in draw controls.

Senior Ali Baiocco led the Cardinal with a seven-point performance, including four goals and three assists. Sophomore Jay Browne pitched in with two goals and four assists, while senior Galen Lew added two goals and two assists.

Senior Katherine Gjertsen scored two goals off the bench. Also scoring for the Cardinal were Ailish Kelly, Genesis Lucero, Daniella McMahon, Anna Griffith and Katy Gilbert.

Lucero also collected a game-high eight draw controls, while fifth-year senior Kyra Pelton had two.

For the second straight game sophomore Kara Rahaim and senior Trudie Grattan shared time in goal. Rahaim had four saves and earned the win, while Grattan tallied seven saves in the second half.

Arizona State was led by fifth-year senior Carley Adams' five goals, while fifth-year senior goalkeeper Berkeley Bonneau had 13 saves.

Stanford closes out the weekend on Sunday against No. 20 USC. The Cardinal and Trojans square off at 2 p.m. on Pac-12 Networks.
