REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Stanford opened its season at Redwood Shores in strong fashion, winning three of four races on Saturday against San Diego and Saint Mary's.
The regatta opened with the varsity fours, with the Cardinal breezing to a 2-0 start. The home team beat San Diego by 25 seconds in the first heat, and bested Saint Mary's by over a miunute to close the morning session.
The Cardinal was tripped up in its first varsity eight duel, falling to San Diego by three seconds. The team, sailing the same eight oarsmen, rebounded for a four second win over Saint Mary's just half an hour later.
Stanford continues its campaign on May 7 at San Diego State.
