STANFORD, Calif. – Led by Caitie Baird and Kendall Kipp, No. 17 Stanford earned a 25-17, 21-25, 25-23, 25-20 win over Arizona State, Friday, at Maples Pavilion.
Stanford (7-4, 2-1 Pac-12) improved to 75-6 all-time against Arizona State (7-7, 0-3 Pac-12). The Cardinal hit .352 while holding the Sun Devils to a .196 clip. Stanford registered 13.5 blocks and 58 digs, while ASU finished with seven aces.
Baird, an outside hitter from Indianapolis, led all players with 22 kills on .419 hitting to go with eight digs and three blocks. Kipp, who started at opposite, added 16 kills on a .371 attack percentage, seven digs, four blocks and two aces, while freshman outside hitter Sami Francis turned in 10 kills and a career-high five blocks.
Freshman setter Kami Miner controlled the offense with 55 assists and tallied nine digs, three kills and two blocks. Middle blocker Holly Campbell finished with 10 kills on 14 errorless swings to hit a season-best .714. The senior also matched her season-high with six blocks, while redshirt sophomore McKenna Vicini had a match-high seven blocks.
Freshman Taylor Beaven started her first collegiate match at libero, filling in for an injured Elena Oglivie. The St. Louis, Missouri, native collected a career-high 18 digs and had two assists. Sophomore Malia Tufuga made her Stanford debut at libero midway through the fourth set when Beaven had to leave the match due to a nose bleed.
Sophomore defensive specialist Alex Lougeay notched five digs for Stanford. Freshman Maiya Tillman came off the bench to serve in all four sets, while freshman Kalissa Greene appeared in her first match as a Cardinal, subbing in to serve in the fourth set.
Arizona State was led by Iman Isanovic's 14 kills, while Marta Levinska added 12. Libero Annika Larson recorded a match-high 19 digs and had four assists.
Stanford closes out a four-match homestand on Sunday versus Arizona. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Pac-12 Bay Area.
