STANFORD, Calif. – Still playing with a depleted roster, No. 19 Stanford dropped a 27-25, 25-23, 25-23 decision to No. 18 Oregon, Thursday, at Maples Pavilion.
Stanford (12-9, 7-6 Pac-12) hit just .196 as a team, while Oregon (17-6, 8-5 Pac-12) posted a .240 clip. The Ducks out blocked the Cardinal, 11.0 to 5.0, and held advantages in digs (50-41) and aces (7-3).
Freshman Kami Miner returned to the Cardinal lineup after missing the previous two matches due to injury. The setter registered her sixth double-double of the year with 29 assists and 10 digs to go with two kills and two blocks.
Freshman Sami Francis, who played opposite, had a team-high 12 kills, while redshirt sophomore outside hitter Caitie Baird finished with eight kills and 10 digs.
Usually Stanford's starting libero, Elena Oglivie played on the outside for the second straight match and totaled seven kills, six digs, an ace and the first two blocks of her collegiate career.
Redshirt sophomore middle blocker McKenna Vicini hit .444 with five kills and led the team with four blocks. Senior middle blocker Holly Campbell chipped in with five kills and two aces.
Making her fourth start of the season at libero, freshman Taylor Beaven collected seven digs and had a career-high five assists. Junior Natalie Berty played in the back row for Francis and finished with five digs.
Oregon was led by outside hitter Brooke Nuneviller's 19 kills on .310 hitting and nine digs. Morgan Lewis added 10 kills on .412 hitting, while libero Georgia Murphy had a match-high 15 digs.
Thursday marked just the sixth time Oregon has defeated the Cardinal, earning a season sweep over Stanford for the first time in program history. Stanford has lost four consecutive matches for the first time since 2000.
The Cardinal wraps up the weekend on Sunday, playing host to Oregon State at Noon. Stanford will welcome back alumni, including members of its nine NCAA championship teams, as well as have a special recognition for longtime associate head coach Denise Corlett, who retired following the 2019 season.
