#StanfordNFL Week 13: Men of the Year

Highlights

Men of the Year

On Monday, a pair of #StanfordNFL alumni were named nominees for the prestigious Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. Harrison Phillips of the Buffalo Bills and Justin Reid of the Houston Texans were selected as their respective team's nominees. Stanford is one of two programs to have multiple alumni be nominees for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.

During the weekend, Phillips and Reid also made their presence known on the football field:

  • In addition to being named a nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, Harrison Phillips made seven tackles with a TFL for Buffalo on Monday Night Football. Earlier in the week it was made public that Phillips has been playing with a torn PCL this season.
  • Safety Justin Reid started and made seven tackles while allowing no receptions in coverage, with a special teams tackle, for the Texans on Sunday. On Tuesday morning he was named a nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.

Okereke Makes the Difference

Third year linebacker Bobby Okereke continued to make his case for the Pro Bowl with a great performance in Indianapolis' 31-0 win over the Texans. Okereke posted an 82.8 tackling grade according to PFF and racked up six tackles, four solo, and a QB hurry. Okereke also wore specialized cleats in partnership with Project Healthy Minds.
