STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford defeated Wheaton College over the weekend in the Avery Aquatic Center. The teams competed in the trio, duet, and solo format during the first day and then the technical competition on Sunday.

"We're excited to have kicked off the 2022 season with Wheaton college competing at Avery this weekend," said head coach Megan Abarca. "It's still very early, so the team knows we have a lot of work to do to prepare for our next meets at TWU & Ohio State."

Two Stanford freshmen had spectacular debuts on Saturday. Lindi Schroeder and Nicole Goot already have impressive debuts even prior to competing for Stanford.

"Our two freshmen join a talented group of returning athletes from our 2021 squad," added Abarca. "We're looking forward to seeing how they'll contribute to the success of the team this year."

Schroeder competed for the United States in the Tokyo Olympics this summer while Goot was a member of the National Team and Olympic Qualification squad last season.

In Schroeder's first competition for Stanford, she won the solo competition with an impressive score of 76.75. Goot partnered with Hailee Heinrich for the victory in the duet scoring 76.85. Goot also won the A Elements competition.

Jacklyn Luu and Emma Tchakmakjian also had a strong showing in the first meet of their second season competing together. The pair earned a score of 74.50, good for second place in the duet competition.

The Cardinal will be back in action on January 28 at Texas Women's University.
