SEATTLE – Stanford led a ferocious comeback in the second half, but Washington clipped the Cardinal on Saturday afternoon, 67-64, at Alaska Airlines Arena. The Cardinal moves to 10-5 overall with a 3-2 mark in Pac-12 play.
Brandon Angel led the offense with 13 points, finishing in double figures for the third time in four games, while Lukas Kisunas pitched in his first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
A story of two halves, Washington led at the intermission, 43-25, but the Cardinal defense turned up the heat in the second half, outscoring the Huskies 39-24 over the final 20 minutes. Stanford held Washington to 22.2 percent shooting in the second period.
A 10-0 run halfway through the second half cut to six, with Angel scoring five points to lead the run. Following four points from Washington, the Cardinal scored 10 of the next 12 points to put the advantage within one possession, 63-65. Stanford intentionally missed a free throw late, and nearly forced a turnover in the final second, but the Huskies escaped with the result.
Stanford finishes a three-game week with a 2-1 record, that included two quadrant one wins over No. 5 USC and Washington State. The Cardinal returns to Maples Pavilion on Thursday, Jan. 20 against Arizona. The action will be broadcast on ESPNU.
