CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - No. 16 Stanford was unable to halt No. 13 Virginia's offense on Sunday, falling to the Cavaliers 23-13. Virginia snaps a three game losing streak to improve to 3-3 while the Cardinal fall to 1-4.

The Cavaliers used a balanced offensive output throughout the game, recording four goals in the final three quarters after tallying 11 in the first. 

Stanford found momentum in the second and third quarters offensively, recording four goals in each including four unanswered from the end of the second into the third.

Ashley Humphrey led the team in points for the fourth time in five games this season, notching five assists and a goal on the day. It marked the third time this season that the redshirt freshman has recorded at least five assists in a game.

Ali Baiocco and Annabel Frist shared the lead in goals for the Cardinal, each tallying four. Baiocco added an assist and Frist chipped in four draw controls and a caused turnover.

The two teams were evenly matched in ground balls, each controlling 16 during the contest. Stanford also won the turnover battle, only giving up possession 10 times compared to Virginia's 15.

The Cavaliers won the draw control battle, however, which made matters difficult for Stanford's offense. The Cardinal controlled 12 draw controls compared to 28 for their competitors.

Sarah Jaques, Caitlin Chicoski, Katy Gilbert, and Liana McDonnell added a goal each for Stanford. Galen Lew shared the lead for draw controls with Frist, also grabbing four.

Stanford will have a weekend off before taking on California on March 11 at Cagan Stadium.
