STANFORD, Calif. – Junior Brett Barrera batted 2 for 3 with two runs scored, a grand slam, a double and four RBIs to help back a strong start from sophomore Drew Dowd as No. 5 Stanford (9-5, 1-2 Pac-12) earned a 10-6 victory in a series finale against Oregon (10-6, 2-1 Pac-12) on Sunday from Sunken Diamond.
Barrera connected for his fourth home run of the year in the second inning, working to a 3-2 count after falling behind 0-2 and launching a grand slam to left-center field. The round-tripper came off Oregon starter Tommy Brandenburg.
Stanford's offense posted 10 runs on nine hits in the victory, backing six strong innings in a quality start from Dowd. The left-hander allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Brandenburg dropped to 1-1 on the year after allowing five runs (four earned) on just the one hit over 1 2/3, but four walks put him in trouble early.
Stanford got on the board first in the bottom of the first as Kody Huff lofted a sacrifice fly to bring home Brock Jones.
Huff finished the game 2 for 4 with a run scored and two RBIs.
Eddie Park and Carter Graham also collected two hits in the victory, with Graham's second hit going for a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth. The round-tripper was his team-leading fifth of the year.
The top four hitters in the lineup, namely Jones, Drew Bowser, Barrera and Graham, each scored twice.
Brandt Pancer contributed a scoreless inning of relief before turning the ball over to Ryan Bruno to start the eighth. The sophomore was charged with a run on one hit and a walk, but Cody Jensen managed to induce an inning-ending double play to end the threat.
Jensen would return to the mound in the ninth and surrender a two-run homer to Jacob Walsh, but eventually finished off the victory by tossing the final 1 2/3 innings with one strikeout.
Walsh went 3 for 5 with a run scored and three RBIs to guide Oregon to 13 hits.
The Cardinal will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Arizona for a three-game Pac-12 series spanning Saturday through Monday.
