Woods Places Sixth

DETROIT - Redshirt junior Real Woods placed sixth at the NCAA Championships, Saturday, at Little Caesars Arena.

After reaching the semifinals on Friday, Woods dropped a pair of decisions on Saturday morning to finish sixth in the nation. He came up short, 3-2, to No. 3 seed Sebastian Rivera of Rutgers in the consolation semifinals before falling to No. 6 seed Cole Matthews of Pittsburgh, 7-3, in the fifth-place bout.

Woods finishes his season at 17-4 overall and is now 42-8 in his Cardinal career. On Friday, he became the 23rd NCAA All-American in program history and just the second to do so at 141 pounds, joining Joey McKenna (2016).

With redshirt junior Shane Griffith reaching the NCAA finals for a second straight season, it is the eighth time in school history that Stanford has produced multiple NCAA All-Americans in the same year.

The NCAA finals will begin at 4 p.m. PT on ESPN and will start at 125 pounds. Griffith will defend his 165-pound title against No. 2 seed Keegan O'Toole of Missouri.
