STANFORD, Calif. – Led by career-best-or-matching scores from seven gymnasts, the Cardinal made its final meet in Maples this season memorable with a season-best score of 196.975, falling just shy of topping No.15 Arizona State's 197.375 effort on Friday night.
Stanford's team total was led by event wins from junior Jade Chrobok on vault (9.90), freshman Brenna Neault on beam (9.925) and senior Taylor Lawson on floor (9.95).
The Cardinal started out its Senior Night matching its season-best vault total, scoring a 49.200. Chrobok led the charge with her career-best score of 9.90 in the leadoff spot, followed by 9.80-or-better scores from freshman Anapaula Gutierrez, Neault, senior Madison Brunette and super senior Kyla Bryant.
It was then onto bars where Stanford earned its second 49.000+ team score of the night. In her final performance in Maples, senior Grace Waguespack kicked off the rotation with a 9.85 in the first spot. The Cardinal's success was continued by a career-best score of 9.85 from junior Chloe Widner in just her second competitive routine of the season.
After counting three falls in its last beam rotation, the Cardinal stormed back with its third 49.000-or-better team score of the night. Going first on the apparatus, senior beam specialist Wesley Stephenson made her mark with a career-best score of 9.90 and was followed by a 9.85 from Lawson and a career-best 9.925 from Neault.
Stanford saved its best performances for last, totaling a 49.575 on floor to close out the meet. The final four Cardinal gymnasts each scored a 9.90-or-better in their final routines of the night, led by event winner Lawson's 9.95 and career-best matching 9.925 from senior Morgan Hoang. Brunette left it all on the floor with a career-best 9.90 and Bryant earned her eighth-consecutive 9.90-or better score in the anchor spot.
The Cardinal has a short 36-hour break before stepping back on the competition floor once again, as Stanford travels to Seattle, Wash. to meet Pac-12 foe No. 35 Washington and No. 16 Utah State on Sunday in a tri-meet slated to start at 2 p.m.
