STANFORD, Calif. – No. 9 beach volleyball split its first day of competition as the host of the Pac-12 North Beach Invitational Saturday, earning a 4-1 win over Washington while falling to No. 1 USC 5-0.
The Cardinal opened its day with its second meeting of the 2022 campaign with No. 1 USC. The highlight of the match was on court five, as freshmen Serena Turner and Camdyn Doucet fought through multiple set points to take set one from the Women of Troy 27-25. The Stanford duo would fall in sets two and three, however, to give USC the sweep win.
Stanford rebounded in the afternoon with a victory over Washington, its second win of the season against the 'Dawgs. Sophomores Xolani Hodel and Kate Reilly, sophomore Emmy Sharp and senior Jordan McKinney, and senior Maddie Dailey and sophomore Maya Harvey each earned straight-set wins over their opponents to earn the three deciding points of the dual match.
The Cardinal continues play tomorrow at the Pac-12 North Beach Invitational, meeting No. 17 Arizona at noon and No. 12 Cal at 4 p.m. Both matches will be played in the Beach Volleyball Stadium and broadcast on Pac-12 Bay Area.
