STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford was well represented with five honorees among the All-MPSF postseason awards selections announced Thursday morning.
Makenzie Fischer and Ryann Neushul earned spots on the first team, Aria Fischer and Jewel Roemer were named to the second team and Maya Avital was tabbed honorable mention. The Cardinal was awarded five all-conference recipients for the fourth consecutive season.
Makenzie Fischer is a four-time all-MPSF selection, Aria Fischer is a three-time all-MPSF pick while Neushul and Roemer were honored for the second time. Avital is being recognized for the first time.
Stanford is the only MPSF program with three different 50+ goal scorers, featuring an offensive threat of Makenzie Fischer, Aria Fischer and Ryann Neushul that ranks in sixth in the conference.
A first-team selection for the third straight season, Makenzie Fischer boasts team-high totals in goals (64), points (97), shots (129) and multi-goal games (18) while ranking second in assists (33). Fischer's 64 goals rank second in the conference behind Arizona State's Vanda Baksa (73). Named the MPSF/KAP7 Player of the Week for March 1, Fischer became the Cardinal's all-time leading scorer in a win over USC on Feb. 26, surpassing the 239 mark achieved by Melissa Seidemann and Lauren Silver. Fischer has scored 269 career goals, which is tied for sixth all-time in MPSF history.
Honored for the second time in her career after making the honorable mention squad in 2019, Neushul ranks second on the Cardinal in points (78) and multi-goal games (16). She also ranks third in assists (27) and shots (80).
Aria Fischer was recognized for the third time in her career, matching second-team status in 2018 and first-team honors in 2019. Fischer ranks second on the Cardinal in goals (52) and shots (88) and third in points (67) and multi-goal games (14).
Following up a debut season in which she was named MPSF Newcomer of the Year, Roemer again landed a spot on the second team. In addition to scoring 23 goals while tallying 59 points and 52 shots, Roemer leads the Cardinal and ranks fourth in the MPSF in assists (36), including a career-high nine back on March 6 against Arizona State.
In 19 games as the Cardinal's primary goalkeeper, Avital has posted an 17-2 record while making 159 saves, including a career-high 16 on Feb. 5 against California. Avital's 159 saves rank 11th on Stanford's all-time single-season list.
Riding a five-match winning streak, Stanford (19-2, 5-1 MPSF) has drawn the No. 2 seed and will face San Jose State (11-14, 0-6 MPSF) in the opening round of the MPSF Championship on Friday morning.
Stanford is seeking its sixth MPSF title overall but first since 2014, when the Cardinal edged UCLA 6-5 with USC serving as the host site. Ironically, Stanford - which also claimed conference titles in 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2006 - has won four NCAA championships since its most recent MPSF crown.
