TEMPE, Ariz. - Annabel Frist scored a career-high seven goals as the Cardinal took care of business against Oregon, claiming a 21-9 victory to advance to the Pac-12 Tournament final. Stanford will face ASU, the winner of the second semifinal against USC, on Saturday at 12 p.m. in the Sun Devil Lacrosse Stadium.
Stanford took control of the contest early and didn't look back. The Cardinal held the lead for nearly the entire game once Caitlin Chicoski bagged the opening goal 47 seconds into the game.
Offensively, Stanford was firing on all cylinders from start to finish. Seven goals in the first period set the tone for the rest of the game as eight different scorers tallied a goal against the Ducks.
Ashley Humphrey tied Frist for the lead in points with seven as she dished five assists along with a pair of goals on Thursday. Her season assist total now sits at 75, just 11 shy of the NCAA record for assists in a season.
The Ducks found some footing offensively in the second quarter, scoring four goals after notching just two in the first period. It wasn't enough to get back in the game, however, as Stanford scored five of its own before the halftime break.
The Cardinal defense made a statement in the third quarter, allowing only two shots and shutting out the opposition. Two of Kara Rahaim's nine saves came in the third quarter and she held the Ducks to only nine goals in the game, the sixth time this season Stanford's opponent has been held to less than 10 goals.
The Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Year displayed why she won the yearly accolade, recording a 50% save percentage on the day, topping her own Pac-12 leading average by nearly 4%.
The Cardinal bested the Ducks in every facet of the game, tallying 14 more shots, 11 on goal, three more draw controls, and causing three more turnovers. This marked the third time this season that Stanford has defeated Oregon with each win coming by 10 goals or more.
Individually, Galen Lew contributed across the board in nearly every category. The All-Pac-12 selection scored two goals, dished two assists, snagged four draw controls, and gathered three ground balls, leading the team in DCs and GBs.
Ailish Kelly and Ali Baiocco each tallied a hat trick as six of the eight Cardinal scorers bagged multiple goals on the day. Sophia Brindisi also got on the score sheet, recording her second-career goal.
Following a day off, the Cardinal will look to claim its second consecutive and its third overall Pac-12 tournament title. Stanford will face off against tournament host ASU after the Sun Devils defeated USC to earn a spot in the conference tournament final.
