STANFORD, Calif. – 24th-ranked Stanford fell behind early and wasn't able to recover in a 5-1 loss to 22nd-ranked Oregon, Saturday afternoon at Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium. The loss sets up a rubber-match on Sunday with the series on the line.
The Ducks (30-17, 9-14 Pac-12) opened the game with five runs through the first three innings, registering 11 hits on the afternoon. Allie Bunker tripled to center field to bat in a run in the first, and three runs came across on back-to-back singles in the second inning.
Stanford (34-17, 9-11 Pac-12) brought in Regan Krause to calm things down in the second inning, and the sophomore responded by allowing one run in 4.1 innings, striking out three to no walks in the process. Molly Millar allowed one hit in the seventh in an inning of relief.
Emily Young got a Stanford rally started in the bottom of the sixth with a double to the wall in center field to put a runner in scoring position. She advanced to third on a wild pitch and was sent home on a RBI groundout from Kaitlyn Lim to put the Cardinal on the scoreboard.
Stanford was able to pitch starting pitcher Makenna Kliethermes from the game courtesy of a single up the left side from Aly Kaneshiro, but the rally would be stopped short on the next batter.
Prior to the start of Sunday's game, Stanford will honor the senior class of Kate Cressey, Emily Klingaman, Hannah Matteson and Molly Millar with a pregame ceremony. First pitch from Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium is scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
