WEST WINDSOR, N.J.- No. 2 Stanford finished its first day of racing at the 2022 IRA Championships Saturday, earning a spot in the Varsity 2x petite final and recording top-four finishes in the race for lanes in the Varsity 4+ and Varsity 8+.
The Cardinal's day began racing its doubles boat, placing fourth overall in the preliminary heat/ semifinals. The top three boats moved onto the grand final, while Stanford will take on Georgetown in tomorrow's petite final.
Stanford then raced for lanes for tomorrow's varsity 4+ and varsity 8+ grand finals. The Cardinal finished fourth in the varsity 4+ race, topping the crews from MIT, Wisconsin, and Georgetown.
The Cardinal ended its day with a third-place finish in the varsity eight race. Stanford started the race with a strong lead after 1000m, but a final push in the last half of the race gave No. 1 Princeton the top finish.
Stanford finishes its 2022 season tomorrow, racing at 5 a.m. (2x), 5:10 a.m. (4+), and 7:10 a.m. (8+). Stanford will race for the IRA Commissioners Cup, the lightweight national championship trophy, awarded to the Women's Lightweight program that accumulates the most points between the Lightweight Eight, Lightweight Four, and Double Scull events.
