Opening Statement

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford opened its season with a 164-89 Pac-12 victory over Utah on Thursday afternoon at Avery Aquatic Center.

The Cardinal, which improved to 10-1 in conference openers under head coach Greg Meehan, showcased its depth across the board and swept all event titles in a dominant debut.

Thursday's competition also represented the program's annual Breast Cancer Awareness meet, with all proceeds benefiting the Women's Health Center at Stanford Medicine.

Torri Huske and Emma Wheal led the way with a pair of event titles. Huske paced the field at 2:14.65 in the 200 breast and led a Cardinal podium sweep of the 100 back with a time of 52.62. Wheal clocked in at 50.98 in the 100 free and led a 1-2-3 Stanford finish of the 50 free with a time of 23.01.

Stanford also produced the top three finishes in the 200 free, with Kayla Wilson taking top honors with a time of 1:48.03.

Also delivering event titles were Claire Curzan (1:54.77 in the 200 back), Sophie Duncan (10:07.22 in the 1000 free), Charlotte Hook (1:57.39 in the 200 fly), Gigi Johnson (54.34 in the 100 fly), Aurora Roghair (4:50.75 in the 500 free), Taylor Ruck (2:01.74 in the 200 IM) and Sam Tadder (1:02.94 in the 100 breast).

Samantha Pearson, Anna Shaw, Huske and Curzan teamed up to win the 400 free relay with a time of 3:20.46.

Maria Papworth paced the Cardinal divers, claiming victories in the 1-meter (306.75) and 3-meter (309.15).

Stanford returns to action on Friday, Oct. 28, visiting Washington State.
