Last Second Look Doesn’t Fall

PULLMAN, Wash. – Locked in a defensive battle on the road, Stanford had a pair of looks come up short in the final three seconds against Washington State, falling 60-59 on Saturday at Beasley Coliseum.

The Cardinal won the battle on the boards by a 35-23 advantage and secured 13 offensive rebounds, led by four from Jones.

Stanford led by three at the half, 34-31, using a pair of 9-0 runs to take the lead. Raynaud scored five points to help Stanford to an early 9-5 advantage, while Jones scored four to give Stanford it's largest lead of the night, 26-18, with 8:19 to play in the first.

There were six lead changes on the night, with the second half being a one or two possession game for its entirety. The Cardinal scored to make it a one-point game with 22 seconds left on a layup from Raynaud, and got a defensive stop on the other end. A three from Raynaud and an ensuing tip from Brandon Angel rimmed out at the horn.
