Starting 2023 with a Win

TEMPE, Ariz. – No. 3 Stanford continued its win streak with a 175-122 victory over Arizona State on Friday afternoon.
 
The Cardinal (4-0) swimmers earned ten event titles, while diver Lauren Burch took the title in both the 1-meter and 3-meter.
 
"I'm really pleased with our team's effort today," said Greg MeehanStanford's Paul A. Violich Director of Women's Swimming and Diving. "Across all events and from our leaders to our freshmen, we battled a very good ASU team. It was important in this format to come out and be really competitive from the very first event to set the tone for the day. We did that and it will serve us well for our heavy racing schedule in the next eight days."
 
Torri Huske won all three events, going 1:46.07 in the 200 Free, 22.17 in the 50 free and 51.54 in the 100 fly. Aurora Roghair also took both titles in the distance events, recording a 9:47.59 in the 1000 and 4:47.22 in the 500.
 
Stanford took both relays, with Claire Curzan, Allie Raab, Emma Wheal and Taylor Ruck going 1:38.84 to start things off in the 200 medley relay. Curzan, Huske, Ruck and Wheal wrapped up the meet with a 1:29.54 in the 200 free relay.
 
Huske, Amy Tang (23.08) and Wheal (23.18) swept the podium in the 50 free and Ruck (53.28), Natalie Mannion (54.04) and Alex Crisera (54.22) swept the 100 back.
 
Curzan also dominated in the 200 back, hitting 1:53.54, three whole seconds faster than the next racer.
 
On the diving side of the meet, Burch recorded a season high 310.20 in the 3-meter and 275.93 on the 1-meter. Emilie Moore also took second in the 1-meter (266.63) and third in the 3-meter (259.73).
 
Stanford will continue its road trip with a dual meet at Arizona on Saturday at 10 A.M. PT.
