WHEATON, Mass. - The Cardinal began the 2023 season in strong fashion over the weekend. Stanford competed well against the Lyons, earning event wins in each discipline over the two day contest.

"This was a great first competition for our team, and it set the tone for a successful season ahead," said head coach Megan Abarca. "With such a large freshman class, the experience gained is invaluable. We're excited to compete against UIW next competition in San Antonio, and we know that these invitational competitions are crucial to reaching our end goal of peak performances at Collegiate Nationals."

Lindi Schroeder was particularly strong in the season-opening meet, claiming four event victories. The sophomore's two highest scores came while competing on her own in the solo and the A Figures events.

Schroeder earned a 79.5750 in the solo and a 79.2436 in the A Figures.

The Andover, Massachusetts native added event titles in the trio and duet as well. She paired up with Hailee Heinrich and Nicole Goot to grab the trio title and a score of 78.7750. The top finishing group just beat out a fellow Cardinal trio of Miko Begossi, Ivy Davis, and Yara Elian who finished 1.1000 points behind in second.

Stanford had two other teams perform in the trio as well, with Yujin Chang, Audrey Nguyen, and Emmanuella Tchakmakjian earning third overall with a score of 74.1500. Emily Brieant, Natalie Greenfield, and Atira O'Neil made up Stanford's fourth-place group, earning a 71.2000.

In the duet, Schroeder and Elian combined for the victory, scoring a 78.7500, 2.1250 points ahead of the second place duet of Miko Begossi and Ivy Davis.

Stanford earned a decisive win in the team competition, scoring a 77.0000. The team was comprised of Miko Begoss, Ivy Davis, Yara Elian, Nicole Goot, Hailee Heinrich, Ava Jih-Schiff, Atira O'Neil, and Emmanuella Tchakmakjian

The Cardinal returns to action over the weekend of February 3-4, taking on Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas.
