Impressive Start

PHILADELPHIA - No. 12 Stanford secured its first victory at the CSA National Championships since 2019 on Friday afternoon, defeating No. 13 Williams 7-2 in the opening round.

Stanford (6-5), which is seeded No. 4 in the Kurtz Cup (B Division), dominated the top of the lineup and posted five three-set wins overall.

The Cardinal notched its first win at Nationals since defeating Princeton 5-4 back on Feb. 24, 2019, resulting in a third-place finish in the Howe Cup (A Division).

Friday's triumph was another positive step forward for a young Cardinal squad that features seven underclassmen and is two weeks removed from a third-place finish at the MASC Championships in its first year as a member school.

Si Yi Ma improved to 10-1 at the No. 1 spot of the lineup, building off her momentum from 2022 in which she produced a team-best 14-1 record while becoming Stanford's first Holleran Cup champion since Madeleine Gill in 2013.

Miriam Cheng, Khushi Kukadia and Lucia Bicknell all won easily to round out the top four spots.

Stanford next faces No. 9 Penn on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. PT in the semifinals, representing a rematch from back in November which the Quakers won 5-4.
